A Broader, BOLDER Approach to Education

BBA principles of new accountability
The Broader, Bolder Approach to Education statement, issued in June, 2008, asserted that: "The public has a right to hold schools accountable for raising student achievement. However, test scores alone cannot describe a school’s contribution to the full range of student outcomes. New accountability systems should combine appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods." In early 2009, a committee of the Broader, Bolder Approach campaign convened to describe how new accountability systems might work. Following the committee's meeting in February, 2009, committee members described the BBA principles of new accountability at a public forum held in Washington, D.C. This video includes excerpts from that forum. Following the forum, the committee continued to develop its proposals, leading to the report issued on June 25, 2009.
