Mary Anne Schimitt-Carey is the President of Say Yes to Education and coordinates its work to establish a city-wide comprehensive approach to education in Syracuse, New York. She came to Say Yes from New American Schools, where she helped to develop a national Comprehensive School Reform model. Mary Anne is a member of BBA's Advisory Council.

Help us spread the message that children who are prepared to learn, well nourished, and healthy, who have access to enriching activities, and whose teachers are held accountable in reliable, supportive ways are better able to take advantage of all that school has to offer.

Reduce poverty to improve learning. Not a single Texas school with an 80% poverty rate prepares more than 20% of its students for college. It's time for a Broader, Bolder Approach to Education!

Children need year-round enrichment. By ninth grade, up to two thirds of the achievement gap can be attributed to disparities in summer learning opportunities. We need a Broader, Bolder Approach to Education!
